10 Best Class A RVs With Bunk Beds

If you’re traveling with kids or grandkids, it’s important that they have a place to sleep. And few options are more popular with the kids than bunk beds.  For this reason, Class A RVs with bunk beds are perfect.

Bunk beds provide the little ones with their own space where they can hang out and sleep. Plus, many Class A RVs with bunk beds also have features like tablet holders to keep little ones entertained.

In this article, we’re going to take a deep dive into Class A RVs, bunk beds, and look at 10 of the best Class A RVs with bunk beds available right now.

What’s The Difference Between A Class A And A Class C?

what’s the difference between a class a and a class c

There are three classes of driveable RVs: A, B, and C. A bit unintuitively, the two largest classes are A and C. So what’s the exact difference between them?

Well, for one, a Class A RV will always be bigger than a Class C. But it’s about more than just size.

The real defining feature between each class of RV is its chassis and general form factor. If you’re not familiar, a vehicle’s chassis is the internal framework of the vehicle. You can think of it as being the RV’s skeleton.

A Class A motorhome is built on a bus or a large commercial truck chassis and will have a form factor broadly resembling a bus. Most commonly, Class A RVs are built on Spartan, Freightliner, PowerGlide, DynoMax, Prevost, and Ford F53 chassis, although other custom chassis are also used.

Class C motorhomes, on the other hand, use a pickup truck chassis, a smaller commercial truck chassis or a cutaway van chassis. On top of this, Class C RVs also always have an overhang above the cab which provides sleeping space.

Due to the large engine size in a Class A, the position of front wheels close to the front of the RV, and the lack of an engine extending in front of you, feels very different to drive from other RVs. You’re also much wider and taller and have a very wide turning radius. Because of this, driving a Class A can take some getting used to.

Are Bunk Beds And A Bunkhouse The Same Thing In An RV?

While shopping for a Class A RV with bunk beds, you might come across the term “bunkhouse” and wonder what the difference is between a bunk bed and a bunkhouse.

Generally speaking, a bunkhouse will be a separate space from the rest of the RV. It will have a door, and may even have its own dressers/storage and TV. Almost always, they will have bed bunks inside of them.

So, a bunkhouse can have bunk beds, but a bunk bed on its own isn’t a bunkhouse. Even if the bunks are in a slide-out, unless they’re divided from the rest of the RV, it isn’t a bunkhouse.

How Much Do Class A Motorhomes Cost?

The exact price of Class A motorhomes varies wildly, but overall, they’re the most expensive class of RV. The cheapest Class As will start around $100,00, but prices range as high as multiple millions of dollars. In fact, the world’s most expensive RV costs about $3 million!

On top of the higher upfront costs, maintenance, and repairs are more expensive for Class A’s as well. Their parts are more expensive, and the labor is more intensive and requires more specialized knowledge, not to mention the extra space required to work on such a large vehicle.

Can Anyone Drive A Class A Motorhome?

Despite their size, in most cases, Class A motorhomes do not require a special license to drive. But, due to their size, Class A RVs should be treated with respect.

Before you debut your new Class A RV on its first road trip, take some time to practice driving it. If possible, find someone with a background driving Class A RVs or similar large vehicles and have them help you. Driving a Class A is very different from driving a typical passenger car.

In some areas, there are driving courses for larger vehicles such as Class A RVs. Even if a special license isn’t required in your situation, this extra training can be very beneficial.

If your rig falls into a category that does require a CDL or special endorsement on your license, you will have to get certified before hitting the road.
